Bridges
For the last year I have been inspired by the older bascule bridges that cross the Chicago River. The curves and arches of their rusting grommet studded surfaces are undeniably beautiful. Seen against the vantage point of open sky they also become powerful abstract forms.

“Black, ponderous latticework of beams and trusses, railroad tracks and spans, semaphores, and flame blue autumn sky leaking through at uncountable angles”

Stuart Dybek, The Coast of Chicago
